We contracted with "Charles" and Subterranean Designs in mid-2020 to produce an underground room suitable as a general entertaining room with a golf simulator, music etc. The idea was to connect to existing basements under a lawn adjacent to my house. The room was to have dimensions of 9 metres x 5 metres and a ceiling height of c4 metres, all at least 0.5 metres under the garden.
The project was challenging from the start, with restricted access for machinery to the site and the discovery of multiple electric cables, phone and internet lines and main drainage all passing through the intended excavation. This meant that a more efficient piling and excavation solution was not possible and the work had to be done incrementally, to avoid excessive damage to existing services and maintain the structure of the nearby house.
Charles and his team reacted effectively to the various challenges, changing their plans and approach several times and the final project was delivered in June 2021. I am very pleased with the result which has been completed to a high standard with the site now returned to its previous garden environment. Charles and his team were always responsive to rapidly deal with issues as they arose and were diligent and quality conscious on every solution they found and implemented. Finally, they had keys and access to our house throughout the period and we never had concerns regarding security or privacy from Charles or any of his team.
